I feel that Google gets a little lost when providing these sorts of results which is a little disappointing, especially if you are a business owner with a letter atached to your address. See example below:

You can see by the Google search result that the Google Places has placed a makr on the map where the business is but it has not allocated a letter. I dare say that this would be different if the business owner had an address without a letter within it.

We are all so hungry when it comes to developing an SEO strategy for a major business to chase links…links & more links. In the short term this is definitely one of the surest ways to increase your ranks, when combined with good content and many other things. But, what would happen in a few years time of Google decided to ‘black ban’ this process. That is, the process of adding links to blog sites and the like. Suffice is to say there would be tens of thousands of companies around the world that may just, well, drop off the map.

So perhaps bigger sized companies, and their SEO partners, need to start ‘thinking outside the box’ a little. My advice to this is to get your employees involved in the process through workplace incentives. In a workplace of 500 employees I would bet that almost every one of them is either blogging, spends time of Facebook, Tweets or is involved in some for of social networking to some degree – many times a day (often at the expense of their employer). Just imagine the SEO and link building power in your employees – especially anchor text specific links?

Just a thought.

For the novices out there experimenting with Adwords and looking to reinforce their presence in their local area, Adwords now has some pretty tricky little things you can do to both boost your local search potential and to give searchers a better idea about what you sell. Further, this can now all be linked in with your Google Maps account. Follow these steps:

If you have not got, you MUST create a Google Places Listing for your local area

Start an Adwords account

When doing your first campaign pay particular attention to the field name “Ad Extensions”, this section is vital for effective local SEO

Web Site SEO as some people call it, in fact you would not believe how many call it web site SEO, instead of website SEO. It seems that people are still coming to terms with search engine optimisation or is it optimization, I prefer the sooner after all we Australian.

Can you believe Google Keyword Tool actually suggests that the search term web site SEO gets 590 hits in Australia per month? Yet another rounded number by Google, I only with they would not round up or down, it would be so much more believable do you think…

Offsite Competitive SEO Elements Tips:

Inbound links galore

Get as many local listing as possible

Tap into viral marketing

Be a blogger

Don’t be a twit, use Twitter

Be a winner a use Google Business Listsing to promote your business

Use page titles to win sales, see example for Alford Point Florist

Getting your SEO done in India, and you website for that matter, is all the buzz at the moment. Why, it is just so damn cheap.

seo india

Being cheap can be a big selling point for Indian SEO companies. Some of our clients get at least 10 emails a week from SEO companies in India pedalling various marketing packages. One of the packages in particular 100 links per month, on high PR sites, for $445 – ongoing. Is this really so cheap?

For small businesses like most the answer to that question lies in this question; How much is your time worth? How long would it take you to sift through thousands of websites adding comments about how fantastic their blog article was. So on that note let us look at this simple equation:

100 link per month – takes 15 minutes to research link, then add it to blog site = 15 minutes
100 x 15 = 1500/60
= 25 hours

So, 25 hours a month it would take a website owner to do linkbulding at this level. If you earn 45$ per hour that is 25 hours x 45 = $1125 worth of your time per month.

Enough of the maths already, I am sure you get the point.

In conclusion, if you are time poor and run your own business there is a pretty good argument there to outsource your SEO and linkbuilding to India.

By the way, this is just another experiment to test the integrity of Google Keyword Tool, obviously the words I am keen to target are SEO INDIA. If you missed the earlier post about it, read it here. That being said the arguement is a fair one.

Google and other search engine rank elevating links are there so as to give your keywords a boost. However, the key to getting good search rank boots using this method is to acquire ‘dofollow’ links on pages using your keywords in either anchor text or keyword phrases. Therefore if you want to highly SEO tweak your florist website, you should be chasing links that use keywords like ‘florist’ and the town or city you are trying to target like ‘Hobart Florist’.

If you are searching high and low for links make sure, when you find the, links are placed on ‘dofollow’ blog sites. To find these types of sites look at this search for ‘dofollow blogs list‘.

How To Add ALT Tags To Images, is it worth it when it comes to search engine optimisation? I feel the answer is still, like it was 5 years ago, a resounding YES. Here is why:

If somone of looking for a product like Sukin Moisturiser they are unfamiliar with visually, they are likely to do a Google images search to search for it. If you stock that brand and had SEO tweaked your alt text within the image there is a pretty good chance your image will be found in a Google image search

Visually impaired web users have special browsers that read out text if there is no alt text, the browser can’t add to the user’s experience. Visually impaired users should definitely be able to get the gist of images like the rest of us, so take a few minutes and write some descriptive alt text

Ranking are important to every business so even a little can go a long way, get you alt tags right for if it only make 2% difference over a year, it is still a difference & it’s FREE

How To Add Tags To Images

Open the folder where the image lives

Right click on it

Click on properties

Click on details Tab

Left click on “Tags”, enter your keywords here

Apply

Black Hat search engine optimisation is usually means and defines some tricks your SEO consultant or yourself may do to speed up your rankings in what is considered an unethical manner.

Black Hat search engine optimisation (SEO) techniques usually comprise of a mix of the following:

The website and its content generates a feeling of a poor experience within the searcher

The website is designed in such a way as to attempt to trick spiders and search engines, which means it usually looks very poor to the eye too

breaks search engine rules and regulations

Duplicated content on many WebPages

Black Hat SEO Techniques To Avoid

Stuff keywords into content: Stuffing huge lists of keywords and nothing else onto your site will get you penalised eventually by search engines. Learn how to find and place keywords and phrases the right way on your Web site with my article titled Learn Where And How To Put Keywords In Your Site Pages.

Invisible or coloured content: This is putting lists of keywords in white text on a white background in hopes of attracting more search engine spiders. Again, not a good way to attract searchers or search engine crawlers.

Doorway Pages: A doorway page is basically a “fake” page that the user will never see. It is purely for search engine spiders, and attempts to trick them into indexing the site higher.

Black Hat SEO is extremely tempting; after all, these tricks actually do work, but for normally just a short period of time. Black Hat SEO techniques do end up getting sites higher search rankings; that is, until these same sites get banned from Google and other search engines for using bad practices. Use efficient search engine optimisation techniques to get your site ranked higher, and stay away from anything that even looks like Black Hat SEO.

An Black Hat SEO Techniques In Practice

To see a Black Hat SEO technique used by an uninformed business click here. You will see the search term ‘The skin all over your face and body needs some tender loving care to survive winter. Sensitivities, eczema’. This same piece of information has been duplicated on 250 or so blogs, obviously owned by the SEO company – most of which have a Google Page Rank of at least 1 and as high as 3. I can’t see how this type of SEO will benefit the business long term.

It would be great to hear anyone’s thoughts on this issue.

One of the most common errors I see amongst SEO professionals and people who own business websites is that in the link building process their link will look like www.localseoadvice.com.au when listed in directories, on affiliates sites or any other sites that may generate referrals back to your homepage.

SEO Tip 101 for building quality links – always display the link you are going to list as it looks on your homepage. In the case of Local SEO Advice it would be a mistake to use the above without a forward slash as it looks on our homepage. Therefore it should look like this – www.localseoadvice.com.au/. That is how you should market your link.
