Web Site SEO as some people call it, in fact you would not believe how many call it web site SEO, instead of website SEO. It seems that people are still coming to terms with search engine optimisation or is it optimization, I prefer the sooner after all we Australian.

Can you believe Google Keyword Tool actually suggests that the search term web site SEO gets 590 hits in Australia per month? Yet another rounded number by Google, I only with they would not round up or down, it would be so much more believable do you think…

Offsite Competitive SEO Elements Tips:

Inbound links galore

Get as many local listing as possible

Tap into viral marketing

Be a blogger

Don’t be a twit, use Twitter

Be a winner a use Google Business Listsing to promote your business

Use page titles to win sales, see example for Alford Point Florist

Learn SEO, is that really something that can be taught?

Anyway, I did a Google Keyword Tool search for the term ‘Learn SEO‘ and Google claims that in Australia the term received 260 searches last month. Why are Googles results for searches always round figures? I guess Google takes the libery to either round up, which is most likely, or round down which is very unlikely.

So this post, more than anything, is just a test, which I will post the results of later next month, to see how accurate Google Keyword Tool is – I am guessing it is not that accurate. If you do an buy a car from a used car dealer, do you believe everything he or she says? I think not, especially where money is involved.

What these links do is expose your website on higher traffic pages in hopes that the traffic from the site you are linked on will get you referral visits. These types of links could come in many forms:

Banner ads

I posted this article some time ago now, and upon reflection on my lates few posts I would say that Google certainly has a say in it. Take my client Newcastle Florist, I have been on a mission to get Newcastle Florist ranked in Google Maps (currently position D) and organicly for a while now and a few weeks ago we finally got them on the first page of Google Maps and to page 1 of SERPS.

Anway, Newcastle Florist’s sales went through the roof, and I mean blaistic, until for no reason at all the map listing vanished mid-week, suffice is to say sales went DOWN fast. Then, after 24 hours, the Newcastle Florist listing reapperaed in maps, sales went back up again.

Does Google control my clients life?

So, when considering improvement to your website using whitehat SEO techniques you should now consider speed and load time as something important and very easy to achieve.

So an SEO tip for April is, if your website takes more than a few seconds to load, it’s definitaly slow, so make sure you fix it.

Black Hat search engine optimisation is usually means and defines some tricks your SEO consultant or yourself may do to speed up your rankings in what is considered an unethical manner.

Black Hat search engine optimisation (SEO) techniques usually comprise of a mix of the following:

The website and its content generates a feeling of a poor experience within the searcher

The website is designed in such a way as to attempt to trick spiders and search engines, which means it usually looks very poor to the eye too

breaks search engine rules and regulations

Duplicated content on many WebPages

Black Hat SEO Techniques To Avoid

Stuff keywords into content: Stuffing huge lists of keywords and nothing else onto your site will get you penalised eventually by search engines. Learn how to find and place keywords and phrases the right way on your Web site with my article titled Learn Where And How To Put Keywords In Your Site Pages.

Invisible or coloured content: This is putting lists of keywords in white text on a white background in hopes of attracting more search engine spiders. Again, not a good way to attract searchers or search engine crawlers.

Doorway Pages: A doorway page is basically a “fake” page that the user will never see. It is purely for search engine spiders, and attempts to trick them into indexing the site higher.

Black Hat SEO is extremely tempting; after all, these tricks actually do work, but for normally just a short period of time. Black Hat SEO techniques do end up getting sites higher search rankings; that is, until these same sites get banned from Google and other search engines for using bad practices. Use efficient search engine optimisation techniques to get your site ranked higher, and stay away from anything that even looks like Black Hat SEO.

An Black Hat SEO Techniques In Practice

To see a Black Hat SEO technique used by an uninformed business click here. You will see the search term ‘The skin all over your face and body needs some tender loving care to survive winter. Sensitivities, eczema’. This same piece of information has been duplicated on 250 or so blogs, obviously owned by the SEO company – most of which have a Google Page Rank of at least 1 and as high as 3. I can’t see how this type of SEO will benefit the business long term.

It would be great to hear anyone’s thoughts on this issue.

The SEO world is buzzing about the potential of Google Buzz. There isn’t really anything fancy about it, imagine a mix of Twitter and FriendFeed. The biggest point of difference between Google Buzz and other social networking platforms is that Google Buzz is integrated into your Gmail account – this is very handy indeed.

What is most important to us though is Google Buzz and the effectiveness of SEO, the most facinating aspects are:

The ‘implicit’ priority that Google Buzz will get on the Google Search Engine

The ‘auto-following’ – you can leverage Gmail to grow your social network more rapidly (compared with Twitter) since Buzz has a built-in viral feature by auto-following contacts

The possible opportunities for SEO and local SEO are as follows:

Google may interpret links from these posts to your website as having some marginal impact on your PageRank

People may read your tweets, news posts and thereby directly o to your website

The posts themselves may show up on Google searches and give you some temporary visibility for free and for your target keywords

I believe Google Buzz has a huge and vast opportunity that may be exploited by search engine optimizers, if you are clever enough. So buzz your way around on Google Buzz.

SEO Tip 101 for building quality links – always display the link you are going to list as it looks on your homepage. In the case of Local SEO Advice it would be a mistake to use the above without a forward slash as it looks on our homepage. Therefore it should look like this – www.localseoadvice.com.au/. That is how you should market your link.

See here for an example, where the focus is on “face lifting serum”

List in Foreign Directories – Most foreign countries have directories you can list with like Hotfrog UK

Socail Bookmarking – Make it a breeze for your website visitors to social bookmark your website, by creating important links that the search engines value. There are plenty of free social bookmarking widgets available

Newsletters – Formulate keyword heavy articles in websites like Scribd, then link back to your site

Site Maps – Hugely underused. All large websites should have site maps, not only are they good for getting your site indexed, but they make it easy for your potential readers or customers to find things3

Anchor Text – Use anchor test, but use it only sparingly

Articles – Use the power of the someone else’s website to boost your rankings. Take for example Smorty who you pay a preset amount to, to have their bloggers list your articles or new products on their sites. The amount you pay depends on the Google Page Rank of the blog site – this method is pretty cutting edge and very, very effective

Titles for links. Links can get titles, too. Not only does this help visually impaired surfers know where you are sending them, but some search engines figure this into their relevancy for a page

Local Hosting – If you own a search engine optimisation company, you are based in Bondi in Sydney, and you want to attract more local businesses through your websites rankings you should not choose the cheapest web hosting option available in India – find a hosting company in Bondi or somewhere in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. This has a huge impact on both your Google Business Listing and localised search results
