We are all so hungry when it comes to developing an SEO strategy for a major business to chase links…links & more links. In the short term this is definitely one of the surest ways to increase your ranks, when combined with good content and many other things. But, what would happen in a few years time of Google decided to ‘black ban’ this process. That is, the process of adding links to blog sites and the like. Suffice is to say there would be tens of thousands of companies around the world that may just, well, drop off the map.

So perhaps bigger sized companies, and their SEO partners, need to start ‘thinking outside the box’ a little. My advice to this is to get your employees involved in the process through workplace incentives. In a workplace of 500 employees I would bet that almost every one of them is either blogging, spends time of Facebook, Tweets or is involved in some for of social networking to some degree – many times a day (often at the expense of their employer). Just imagine the SEO and link building power in your employees – especially anchor text specific links?

Just a thought.

The SEO world is buzzing about the potential of Google Buzz. There isn’t really anything fancy about it, imagine a mix of Twitter and FriendFeed. The biggest point of difference between Google Buzz and other social networking platforms is that Google Buzz is integrated into your Gmail account – this is very handy indeed.

What is most important to us though is Google Buzz and the effectiveness of SEO, the most facinating aspects are:

The ‘implicit’ priority that Google Buzz will get on the Google Search Engine

The ‘auto-following’ – you can leverage Gmail to grow your social network more rapidly (compared with Twitter) since Buzz has a built-in viral feature by auto-following contacts

The possible opportunities for SEO and local SEO are as follows:

Google may interpret links from these posts to your website as having some marginal impact on your PageRank

People may read your tweets, news posts and thereby directly o to your website

The posts themselves may show up on Google searches and give you some temporary visibility for free and for your target keywords

I believe Google Buzz has a huge and vast opportunity that may be exploited by search engine optimizers, if you are clever enough. So buzz your way around on Google Buzz.

General Words – these are a must not and may look like anothernonameseoblog.wordpress.com, remember it is also important to brand your product or service. You would be better using something like seotools.wordpress.com

Link To Search results – If you are discussing search engine optimisation, then link to it in Google search results (serps). This is especially effective if, for instance, you are talking about BPA free baby bottles and you already rank #1 like one of our clients BPA Free Baby Bottles Online. Or if I was talking about local SEO I would link to our search resualt in Google SERPS

Package Your Online Activities – The reward for one really well written far outweighs the rewards for many averagely written blogs. Don’t spread yourself too thin

Try Not To Be A Provocateur – If you go too far with your opinions expect people to reject you

Write of a Niche & For Mass Appeal – Write you articles to appeal to mass audiences as well as small niche’s

Social Networking – Make your presence felt as much as possible within the social networking web. Scribd, Facebook & Twitter are great examples of this

Ensure You Join Business Platforms – Websites like Linkedin, Ebay & Etsy are brilliant platforms for you to promote your business with other likeminded people. This is a very effective way for you to gain some excellent backlinks and do some serious networking
